ReplyDeleteThe top 20 in this list consists almost entirely of albums selected for heavy or medium rotation by the music director(s). Consequently, it's extremely biased, and not a fair representation of the individual tastes of XYC's DJs...it just happens to be a list of albums that we can agree on because we all had to listen to and play them (at least the vast majority of the top 20). I'd like to see a list of the station favorites among what was not selected for rotation. Something tells me it would reflect more directly on the identity of our DJs, and not the strong-arm of the music director(s), who DO CONTRIBUTE A LOT, but sometimes divert our true identity towards the uber-obscure, indigestible, and radio un-friendly.

Actually, nothing changed in how the list was created - it's a voluntary thing which DJs can submit share their list w/just me, or share w/the listserve, or simply abstain. We often to do have entries in the Top 20 which were not rotated, but the process is the same and is a reflection of who turns in their favorites of a particular year.
