The Cure For What Ails You

My my my but health care has become quite the divisive issue in the United States, no? Perhaps it was to be expected, but when you really think about it, is there some good reason that we should be able to drive on the highways for free but not be guaranteed medical treatment if we need it? I wonder how many of the people who are against the idea of universal health care would agree that their own mothers should be denied treatment if they couldn't afford it?

Well, I could go on, but I'll let the Feedback Farmers do the talking instead. Click here (60MB MP3) to hear last week's programme on health care.

Be sure to tune in Wednesday, August 26th at 9pm WXYC time to hear the next Feedback Farm episode, which is on a related topic: Garbage.

  1. First off, thank you for your wonderful posting of the sounds and images of A Story of Dracula the Wolfman and Frankenstein. I was 9 again while listening to it, and I'm 38.

Now, on to a more sober subject: responding to your Obama post.

The highways in this country are hardly driven on for free. They cost trillions in state and federal taxes. A simple mile long road in the country here in Louisiana cost as much as 2.5 million. Also, you probably did not acquire your vehicle for "free." Nothing is free.

Secondly, no one's mother would die without treatment as every hospital in this nation is required to treat anyone coming into the ER as per federal law. And you must have heard of Medicare and Medicaid yes?

Federalizing healthcare more than it already is will destroy insurance companies and cheapen care. This has been proven in Cuba, England, and Canada.

I hope this response inspires you to seek out more information on this subject. Medicare and Medicaid, government healthcare for the young, poor, and elderly is enough. Both systems are already utterly broke. We do not need to add to them.

No one's mother goes untreated in this nation and those who elect health insurance should have the freedom to do so. Some actually pay for systems that pay doctors and nurses adequately. The others have our current systems and anyone showing up to an ER has to be treated and will not be thrown in debtor's prison for not paying.

    Yours,
    Ed Richardson
